Chart of the Day

From The Big Picture:


That damn spendthrift Obama, why can't he be more frugal like those Republicans?  What's that?  Oh, right, the facts are a different thing.  I would say that the Reagan economic "miracle" had a lot of government spending help.  What do you think?

  1. You do realize this does not include the Obama stimulus expenditures don't you? Since the chart does take into account war spending you really need to include the stimulus dollars to make it a level playing field. I think we all know Obama has been spending a lot of cash since taking office. Seems like I saw this in the Washington Post getting debunked?

  2. You can click through and read the post where he answers critics. That immediate leap in spending is partially the stimulus and partially TARP spending, but 1/3 of the stimulus was tax cuts, so it increased the deficit by decreasing revenues, not increasing spending. Same with continuing the Bush tax cuts and adding the payroll tax cut.
