2011 $50 Gold Buffalo Tribute Proof

I saw this ad on TV last night and wanted to do the math to see how much 14 mg of gold turned out to be.  At $1400 an ounce, it works out to $0.69, but you can have it for just $9.95, plus shipping and handling.  I feel bad for people who actually fall for the crazy marketing on scams like these.  No wonder political advertising works so well.

  1. Where can I get one of these gold coins? When the government falls I'll need all the gold and guns I can get.

    1. I hear London Bridge is for sale again. This is a rip off. It's gold plated and worth about.40 cents give or take.

  2. The link takes you right there. I'd buy the guns and ammo first, then you can take the gold from people who didn't invest in the guns.

  3. Who would want to use a gun to get .69 worth of gold? I have collected coins for over 40 years. This FAKE gold plated $50 Gold Buffalo made in tribute to the genuine $50 Gold Buffalo is a SCAM. The coins are a novelty only and the company that sell these coins are deceiving the general public. The statement that Gold prices are sky rocketing is a moot point when referring to these copy or FAKE $50 Gold Buffalo coins. IT IS THE RIPOFF OF THE CENTURY! Take notice that the fake coins do not say $50 on them. For $9.95 PLUS shipping, you are actually paying $15+ for .69 cents worth of gold that if you ever wanted to cash in, it would cost you at least $50 or more with any refiner to recover the .69 cents in gold. The coins are worth .69 now and even if gold doubles in the next 10 years, you would have about $1.40 worth of gold which will probably cost $100 to extract. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! DON'T BUY THE COINS! For $15. you would need to receive 21 coins to equal the money spent.

  5. I just saw the ad on tv and looked up the price of gold. Today it was $1502.33 an ounce. I did the math. The 14 mg of gold in the coin comes out to $.074. It's up 5 cents since February 20.

  6. I saw the ad today on TV and did my own math. Gold was $1502.33 today. The 14 mg of gold in this coin is worth $0.74 today... Hey, that is up 5 cents since February 20. Should have bought Confederate dollars. Would have been a better investment.

  7. I bought 5 coins last week and will give them as a nice gift to some relatives. Could'nt find nothing cheaper and nice, besides those $2 bills you can get at any bank.

  8. So long as you realize what you are getting, they are pretty coins. They just aren't worth what the ad tries to make them out to be.

    1. It does say copy, unless it was superimposed. That would destroy the looks altogether, I agree invest in something worth that, besides they are scamming a lot of folks.

  9. I saw the commercial on Television for the coins of the Fake 2012 fifty dollar buffalo coins for 9.95. If you happen to look at the Indian head side of the coin, It literally says Copy . It is spelled out in the pony tail of the indian hair going up his Shoulder. If you took one of these as more than a coin you would give your small children to play with, you would be a laughing stock. They try to avoid showing the indian head side because it Plainly says copy on it in huge letters. What a Scam !!!!!

  19. This scam takes advantage of the fact that our school systems produce morons by the millions. But its ok, they are well school in the details of bullshit khristianism. :)

  20. Unfortunately, these companies also prey on our elderly. All the grandchildren received one at Christmas from our 83 year old father. These companies should be strung up by their thumbs. Sad waste of his dwindling retirement fund. He knew he had been taken. His generation trusts people. "suckers" aren't born every minute, liars and thieves are.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I was hoping that posting about it would prevent a few people from getting taken advantage of. Unfortunately, most 83 year olds aren't searching the web.

  22. when something is supposedly worth $50, but goes for $10, scam flag should go up

  23. After seeing this BS commercial over and over again I just had to see what others were saying. I'm in total agreement; what's most hilarious is that in one sentence they say how much gold is going up right after they let you know that the coin is "clad" in geniune gold. Wow, 'clad' sounds so premium. Too bad the offer is strictly limited to five coins or I would have bought out the whole lot!

  24. Thanks ! saved me some $

  25. Thanks much for all the info. This many people cant be wrong! My father sent me one of these "copy" coins in Christmas card, I thought I might just have something here! No such luck! Thanks Dad.

  26. Now I understand why rich guys want to limit the role U.S. government. In the days of regulation, the FTC would prevent scammers like these from advertising on TV. Lack of regulations allow the rich to take advantage of the poor and the ignorant. God bless the good ole USA and capitalism or should I say "capitalization". Thank God for the internet and bloggers like you.

  28. I saw this Scam add on the "MILITARY" channel and am disappointed in them for airing it. The "MILITARY" channel is allowing its' viewers to be taken advantage of, and this says a lot of how much they care about their audience.

  29. Its a very pretty worthless coin. If you think of it as an investment then you have been scamed. If you buy one because its shinny and know its a fake, its not bad to look at. The scam is in the expectations and the belief we have in the false advertizing. We need the FTCto control scamers the Maddoffs and the rest of the white collet scum in this country.

  30. Yep they are still running same bs commercial. Just saw it on natgeo and my son asked wow $50 coin for $10 was able to tell him no its a $0.70 coin for $10

  31. Sadly, they tell you exactly what you are receiving. While I completely disagree with it, there is no fraud. They tell you it's a gold clad proof. They take advantage of those who do not understand what it is they are selling and with a "threat" of future regret. Disgusting but not illegal. As with any purchase, buyer beware.

And anyone who actually thinks these are collectors pieces, need to do research. These are worthless and about as collectible as McDonald's Happy Meal toys.

    1. No McDonald's happy meal toys are actually collectables. These in 50 years will only be worth whatever 14mgs of gold's worth. But I've seen old McDonald's happy meal toys still In wrappers go for decent money 100-100s some thousands.

  34. Apparently this outfit scams enough poor souls to keep producing coins worth .76 cents and charge the poor souls $9.99 for them. Tribute my a*#. I'm thankful to my fourth grade teacher who taught me simple multiplication and division. Think of it like this, would you trade anyone a ten dollar bill for 3 quarters? That is what you're doing. Accurately spoken, "If it sounds to good to be true, it is!!". Folks, you can go to Sees Candy Store and get 2 dozen gold coins for a third of the cost and those coins have no chance of leaving a bad taste in your mouth!!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well apparently they don't give you all the information so buying these old coins that are just copies are clad with gold plated is not worth beans for gold. They're only good for collectors so hold on to them just in case what a waste of money

      Delete
    2. Watch the commercial again and you'll notice they DO give you "all of the information". It's clearly stated that it's not legal tender and that it's a TRIBUTE proof.

But because you missed it, they're somehow at fault? How exactly does that work?

      Delete
    3. Because they're asking more money than it costs to produce? Is that why people say it's a scam? What about baseball cards? Stamps? Anything people collect? It didn't cost 2 million to build that 66 Shelby Cobra but they're sure asking that much for them. Does that make those scams, too?

      Lol. Come on.

      Delete
    4. Not to mention that THE RIDGES ALONE suggest it's not a real nickel. Nickels don't have edge ridges. Jesus Christ people. That right there tells you it's not legal tender so it must be a tribute/etc...

      Which they clearly state.

  35. Actually now that gold is worth $.54
And with it costs about $15 now
    With shipping and handling

    2. The funny thing is it says in the commercial that it's a TRIBUTE and not legal tender.

So how exactly is it a scam? They told you exactly what it is and didn't try to pass it off as an authentic gold Nickel.
