The Big Ten won't look as bad if Michigan can win, but something tells me there are too many teams from the Big Ten, the ACC and the Pac-12 playing in bowl games.

  1. At least University of Minnesota wasn't invited to a bowl. They haven't won the Big Ten crown since I was a freshman there (1967). I just wish they would drop athletics altogether but they have so much infrastructure—including a brand new football stadium and possibly the nicest hockey rink in North America with Olympic-sized ice that stays in year around. (Too bad we haven't had a coach that understands big-ice hockey since Herb Brooks left after winning the NCAA championship in 1979.)

  2. After hearing that Oregon won their first Rose Bowl in 95 years, I wondered about Minnesota. I just looked it up and saw they've only played in the Rose Bowl twice, losing in 1961 and winning in 1962. I figured they would have gone back in the golden years around 1940.

Yeah, after building the new football field, I would guess they won't be dropping the sport, and I couldn't ever see them giving up hockey. The administration wouldn't want to be responsible for a spike in winter suicides in Minnesota.
