The U.S. Army Air Force firebombs Tokyo, and the resulting firestorm kills more than 100,000 people, mostly civilians. This is somewhat of a follow-up on the Vonnegut post. The book review delves into Slaughterhouse-Five and the questioning of the value of World War II. This is another example of the horrific costs of that war. While the Axis Powers created massive amounts of human suffering, the Allies weren't wrapped in tremendous glory either. We tend to overlook the stupendous costs the war inflicted on humanity, just because the Nazis took evil to a new level.
